Knocked out tooth
This needs immediate management at the trauma scene.
If the injured person is conscious, recover the tooth, holding it by the crown (not the root), rinse gently in milk or the patient’s saliva. Then immediately reinsert the tooth, hold in place with gauze or cloth.
If the tooth can’t be reinserted, carry the tooth in milk or saline and contact us. If the accident happens outside hours, contact the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital (ph 03 9341 1000) or an emergency dentist.
